Photographing people..

July 23, 2019

I’ve been photographing people since I was about 16 years old, yet somehow I still find the experience slightly nerve racking. There’s something about the job of making your subject feel at ease in front of the camera, whilst simultaneously having to consider technicalities, framing, composition, etc, etc. It always feels a tad overwhelming.

When I started my last project “In the Mind’s Eye’ I found it a relief to use myself as a model. I appreciated the peacefulness of just focusing on creating, not having to worry if my subject was uncomfortable, bored etc. I ended up taking photos of myself for about 3-4 years.

Since the start of my new project ‘Unseen’, i’ve had to step out of my comfort and photograph other people again. Even though part of me was dreading it, I found that I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far! Already, I’ve built a strong rapport with them all and I feel really lucky to be working with such a lovely bunch of people!
